I contacted Miss FairTax form Jacksonville who is going to contact the state director and the regional coordinator for the Florida FairTax organization. I'll update everyone once i hear back from them. I'll be meeting them this weekend, as well, in Jacksonville, at the FairTax rally.

Has anyone asked Clark Howard to be our celebrity speaker?

I saw Clark live in the "mouths of the south" tour with Neil Bortz, Sean Hannity, Rusty Humphries and believe it or not he was a GREAT free market guy and in my opinion the best live speaker of the bunch... He can talk about so much more than his consumer show...

Why don't you try contacting him, Rich? I don't think it occured to any of us to ask him.

Hey Suzette,

I'll be in and out of the office a good bit today; but, will try and contact Clark Howard through his web site. . .

The central Florida director for the FairTax replied and he is available. I'll be talking with him today about particulars.

Here's where I think we are right now with speakers:

1 - Jason / Mike - What we're up against, in their own words (sound bites, rally the crowd)
2 - FairTax Speaker - History of the tax code, income tax, affects on population, class warfare, steering behavior, FairTax as the solution.
3 - Ron Peri - Constitution, founding principles
4 - ? - Call to Action Items - Closing - Tax Photo - Demonstration

Matt Falconer is not available, nor his #2 person, but he said he'd think about it if he could have another person speak on his behalf. We'll see.

Hey Rick,...what time can Ron meet tomorrow? (if he can)

Heads up: Huffington Post has a citizen reporter signup and chances are very good that they will make their presence at the event. Also, taxdayteaparty.com has suggestions on how to handle a fake tea party supporter that starts acting out.

There are a number of very-well organizedand funded groups in America whose leaders benefit from big government programs. They do well when they get weak-minded politicians to spend more of your money.

These groups don’t, um, like the Tea Parties. I’m thinking of ACORN as one example.

There are rumors floating around some of the Tea Parties that groups like ACORN might show up at one or more of the Tea Parties and:

Engage in
sabotage
by, for example,
behaving in some outrageous way while masquerading as a Tea Partier
in order to distract attention from what you’re doing and make you look bad. Circulate misrepresented petitions in support of the federal budget
Engage in various acts of bullying and intimidation. While anyone has a first amendment right to show up at a rally, it is good to think ahead and prepare yourself. If your Tea Party is targeted by big-governmnent goons, the thing they’re most likely to do is masquerade as Tea Partiers and behave in offensive and obnoxious ways with a view to getting a headline in tomorrow’s paper that blames you for the bad behavior.

How will you deal with this if it happens at your Tea Party?

Whatever else you do, it really is important to be able to get your side of the story out there quickly. Think about how you might do this. Bear in mind that there are about 500 Tea Parties scheduled on April 15.

There will be a massive amount of blog coverage and probably a fair amount of local mainstream news coverage as well. If you need to set some facts straight, it won’t necessarily be easy for you to get your story through to this blog, or some of the national bloggers like Glenn Reynolds and Michelle Malkin who are providing great coverage of these events.

With that in mind, how will you set the record straight on April 15 and immediately thereafter if you’re the subject of left-wing sabotage and misrepresentation?

Some tips:

Have your own blog set up in advance. (You should be able to get a simple Wordpress blog that has the name of your city and the word “Tea Party” in it. Have the ability to quickly send information to the press in your area, including bloggers. Have the ability to quickly send a mass e-mail to all your supporters to make sure they know what is happening. Make sure you are available via email or phone as much as possible for those seeking the facts.

So do we have a game plan if any of these clowns make their presence known?

Rick,

Will your photographer friend be there to take some cool shots?

Jason,

Have the UCF Republicans confirmed that they will do the citizen reporter for PJTV? Is it possible that one them could contact me?

I hate to sound like a broken record, but if you used The Big Event you would be able to instantly notify anyone and everyone who wanted to know about sabotage that happened (as warned against below) without being limited to people who had submitted email addresses. You could also provide highly effective and full content, all for free.

I have some advice, which may sound stupid now, but you might be glad later. Buy a large digital stopwatch that can be placed on a podium underneath the face of anyone who is speaking and can be reset when anyone begins speaking. Then any TV stations that broadcast what is being said wil have a record of what is being cut out of the speeches. We need to end the editing of what is being said and taken out of context. ... I just went looking for one and was very disappointed. I can't find anything like that for less than $400! $400 for a timer with $30 or less worth of parts! Anyway, I think this will be important in the future.
