From what I witnessed, 95% went very well.
Part of the 5% that needs improvement is the sound. Up close it was distorting, the speakers were being over driven a little.
On the outskirts of the crowd, it was unintelligble. I realize this is an technical issue that does not come without cost. This equipment is not inexpensive but we need to plan for even bigger crowds and be able to get qualtiy audio out to them. Our speakers did a great job offering information of interest and the attendees need to hear them.
I'd like to see more space provided for the tables. Linda, Kelsey and the team and the folks with our FairTax table were inundated with people wanting to register with us. Not a bad problem to have. Can we make it easier for the attendees to get to us, register and move on?
What went well? The awesome arrival of the Lk Eola group that processed its way to our gig, without a permit!
Also, the incredible amount of donated goods. I asked my OURM contact to please give me a final count inventory of everything that was recieved so that we can post the results.
I thought the use of Obama speech snippets was POWERFUL.
I did a sound check -- I thought it was good -- but I was at Brevard Tea the other day -- sound was also a complaint there so it looks like most think this needs improvement.
I would like to see planning start well in advance of the event (can I be part of it again??).
We had great speakers -- I think our speaker strategy should be all speakers rally and rile people in the speech.
I loved the climax with the signs -- we should always have an endgame like that.
We should always have a charity.
There should be 2 people handling each task (ie getting permits, organizing promotional tables, etc)
People should be urged, by a speaker, to join activist organizations (we cannot do this alone)
At Brevard Tea they had a way to ask people to help defray costs.
If i think of anything else i will write again but in summary I think this Tea had polish.
I think we should start planning for July 4th now.
Any ideas?
I am at a loss on how ppl will be spending the day.
Perhaps we do it on a date close by July 4th?
I heard somebody planning a morning protest at the office of congressman-but will they be in their office?
I would like to have time, date, location so I can get fliers ready to hand out prior to the event.
Perhaps we send invitations to all of our local, state, and national officials to come LISTEN to us.
Perhaps we secure an inside room with a big tv and play a video of people asking questions and expressing concerns in a constructive way. This would be quite an undertaking.
TCOT is also brainstorming What's next.
Also, 9/12 who is going to Washington DC
As far as sound, I was too busy with sign in to pay attention to speakers. When I was across the street, I thought the sound was fine-but I am not picky.
I agree about the sound. I specifically went to the outskirts to listen and I heard everything fine and clear. In fact, I started walking toward where my car was parked, which was in a lot that was fairly close. The sound was loud and clear until I turned the corner.
I want to get more involved in the movement. Is any planning going on for the next event? I believe that the April 15th event was a great success nationally and it is something that can be built upon. The next event will be looked at by our leaders and the media, but not necassarily reported on or taken seriously. The next event and the overall movement will be judged, at least in part, on how well progress is made in the organization of the movement and in its message. If the next event is at least as big or bigger than the last one, it will be great, but size alone may not be enough to shake loose the status quo. I believe that a goal of the next event should be to:
1. make a strong, fact based case on why we believe the country is gong in the wrong direction.
2. deliver a more simplified, refined and focused message that is rooted in principals rather than just aimed at TAXES and "YOU KNOW WHO", so that anyone can understand it and not feel uncomfortable supporting it.
After the next event there should be no doubt that:
1. Lots of Americans want a change in direction for our country.
2. What direction we want to go.
3. How determined we are to see the change happen.
I would like anyone looking at this movement to understand that it is not just a bunch of people (extremists or racists as some called us) who don't like taxes and don't like Democrats.
